Oatmeal Chocolate Bars

Filling

Crust

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease a 9" square baking pan. Prepare filling. n medium saucepan, combine all ingredients. Over medium heat bring to a rolling boil, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and cool.

  2. Prepare crust. Cream butter. Add sugar and beat. Add egg and vanilla and beat until light and fluffy. Stir in flour, baking soda, oats, and walnuts. Blend well.

  3. Spread half of mixture into bottom of prepared pan. Spread with cooled chocolate mixture. Crumble balance of oatmeal mixture on top. (There was no crumbling for me. I placed it on top. LVB)

  4. Bake 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely before cutting into squares.

Makes 36 bars.
