Cream 1/2 cup softened butter and 1 cup brown sugar. Add 1 egg and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, beat well. Sift together 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour, 3/4 teaspoon soda, 3/4 teaspoon baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt. 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg.
Add sifted ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with 1/3 cup dairy sour cream. Stir in 1 cup pitted dates cut up. Drop from teaspoon, 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 for 8 to 10 minutes. Makes 4 1/2 dozen. (Made 5 dozen for me.)
